Description

Minimally invasive techniques have revolutionized surgery. Today, surgeons operate with a camera through tiny incisions, reducing patient morbidity and mortality. However, it leads to serious drawbacks as surgeons cannot touch or see the organs directly. To locate the pathology inside an organ (ex: such as tumours), the surgeon needs to memorize the medical images (CT or MRI) before the surgery and thus are prone to human errors. Augmented Reality and artificial intelligence is the solution to resolve these strong drawbacks! SurgAR aims to finalise the development of a software suite to offer the possibility to visualise tumours and anatomical landmarks in real time on the surgeon’s screen by adding information from preoperative images. Used during preclinical tests and in more than 40 patients, our software suite seems promising to improve surgeon precision without complications for the patients.
